This website is dedicated in memory of Mike Overman

In June or July, 1992, two brothers – Mike and David Overman – sat in a 14ft aluminum boat on Tilly’s Pond and had a good day catching good sized bass.  This day was so much fun that there arose discussions of how to share this fun and excitement with others.  That is when the formation of a bass club was discussed and put into motion.  David and Mike rounded up several locals and asked if they would join with them to form the club.  The bass club was titled in September of 1992 as Southern Bass Masters.  Rules and regulations were set in place and were voted on because Mike insisted that this club would never tolerate cheating, drugs, and alcohol.  These same rules stand today.

In 1993 the club had grown significantly and was entered into the Bass Federation.  Upon entering into the Bass Federation, the club’s name was changed to North Carolina Southern Bass Masters.  In the later parts of 1993, the club started attracting new fisherman, some of whom had nearly 20 years fishing experience.  This, in return, helped other team members to become better fisherman themselves.  One of the more experienced fishermen was Allen Massey.  Allen owned his own bait and tackle store and was a big help in teaching all of the club members on how to fish.  He won six year-end tournaments consecutively, and this record still holds strong today.

N.C. Southern Bass Masters has dues that are paid monthly.  These dues have to be paid before any members’ points will be counted for the year.  This money is returned at the end of the year to the winning club members.  All club members and their families are invited to a steak dinner around December each year, with gifts being given out to the club members and their families.

N.C. Southern Bass Masters is a very strong club with heavy competition.  It is extremely difficult to beat these members.  We, N.C. Southern Bass Masters, invite you to join our club, but it should be understood that we absolutely do not tolerate bad conduct, nor any types of cliques within the club.  You are invited to join, but at your own risk because you will be beaten!  You are allowed to fish with a partner of your choice as long as he/she is a member.  Their weight is their weight.  There is no gender or age restriction as long as you are able to fish and/or operate a boat safely.  N.C. Southern Bass Masters puts safety first!
